I’m currently on my exchange semester in Antwerp, Belgium, and slowly realizing I don’t have time at all to take any photos whatsoever.

The Magic of Maggie Island
After a very exhausting three weeks of travelling well over 9000 km by car, we had a few days left to relax on the calm and beautiful Magnetic Island. However, that didn’t stop us from taking a few more hikes around the island to see the koalas sleeping in the trees.

After crossing from a small road to a smaller road, then to a tiny road, and finally onto something that shouldn’t even be considered a road, we reached probably the most remote town on our whole trip: Karumba.

After the lavish aussie brekkie mentioned in the last post, Uluru and the Megameter slog, we headed straight for the Kakadu National Park, where we got to experience pure and untouched wildlife in a whole new dimension. Since the very north of Australia is located in the tropical climate zone, the whole park (which with over 19 thousand square km of area is absolutely huge) is bursting with wildlife.

Our outback journey led us to the heart of Australia, Uluru (or for the tourists, Ayers Rock). We stayed around the resort for two nights, which gave me the time to take a lot of footage, including some great time-lapses. (featured here)

Our journey through Australia led us to the Gorge Wildlife Park near Adelaide, where I was able to take all of these photos. Although these animals are born in captivity, they are native to Australia, and are allowed to roam free in the park. So if you keep your distance and bring a good zoom lens, you can still experience a somewhat natural behavior.

For our journey from Sydney down to Melbourne and further on, we rented a car, which took us to some of the most famous sites of Australia, and also to some lesser known, though not any less beautiful, places.

A few days after Sydney, we arrived in Melbourne, and only a few minutes in I was already certain that this city was much more my cup of tea. Melbourne is bursting with color and creativity and when walking through the streets of downtown, you get the feeling that this city has an unwritten policy that no two buildings are allowed to look even slightly similar. Every single bigger building or scyscraper has some kind of special and unique decoration.

In summer 2017 I toured through Australia with my family. We first arrived in Sydney, where it actually was a lot warmer than we expected (we throught it would be similar to the Austrian winter, but it’s more like warm, sunny autumn days).
