Uluru and the Megameter slog

Our outback journey led us to the heart of Australia, Uluru (or for the tourists, Ayers Rock). We stayed around the resort for two nights, which gave me the time to take a lot of footage, including some great time-lapses. (featured here)

After staying at the Uluru and Erldunda Roadhouse, we headed further north to Alice Springs. On the way north we also stopped at sites like the Henbury Meteorite Craters and the Devil’s Marbles rock formations.

After staying in Alice springs, we didn’t book any accommodation in advance, which turned out as a huge mistake, because thanks to some big event in the area where we wanted to spend the night (around Daly Waters), every single accommodation was fully booked out.

Therefore, we just drove further north, from town to town to check if anyone had a free room, until we arrived in Adelaide River, which totalled us out at about 1400 km of driving on just one single day (and well into the night). Thankfully that drastically reduced our trip length for the next day, and we even got to treat ourselves to a big breakfast in Darwin, a city which we had originally planned to skip, but now had the time to visit for a few hours.

On the way back south, we actually DID book a room at the Daly Waters Pub in advance, because it looked so unique and neat that we really wanted to stay there. This was also the first time I got to try the Australian Outback for star photography.
