After passing Adelaide, we headed north into the Outback. The vast emptiness of the central part of this continent didn’t compare to anything I’ve ever seen before, and I can say that after having been to the Salt Flats of Utah and the long stretches of deserts in Arizona. You could literally drive for a whole day without ever seeing anything noteworthy, if you didn’t know where the interesting spots are.
Of course, the loneliness of this place itself is also quite the sight to see for some people. I can only imagine how awe-inspiring it must be to just sit in the desert, somewhere far away from the main road, for a few hours and contemplate about the meaning of life. Sadly, we didn’t really have a long time to do that, but at least we got so see some incredibly unique spots in the outback, like the old mining town Coober Pedy, where you get to sleep in an underground hotel, directly drilled into the rocks.
